CONNECTICUT — Motorists traveling along Interstate 95 experienced delays today following a series of traffic incidents and crashes reported across several sections of the highway, with emergency crews responding to clear wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.
One of the earlier incidents occurred in Westport, where a tractor-trailer crash temporarily shut down the southbound Exit 18 on-ramp. Authorities reported that the collision caused a fuel spill, requiring cleanup operations before the ramp was reopened later in the day. No injuries were reported in that incident.
In Greenwich, a separate two-vehicle crash near Exit 5 led to a temporary closure of I-95 northbound. The collision resulted in a fluid spill and prompted a full shutdown of the roadway while emergency responders worked at the scene. The highway was later reopened after several hours of cleanup and investigation.
Another disruption was reported near West Haven, where two related crashes caused additional delays on the northbound lanes. According to state police, a motorcyclist was injured after striking debris from an earlier crash involving a vehicle that had hit a guardrail. The driver of that earlier vehicle required extrication before being transported for treatment.
Transportation officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution in active construction and incident zones, reduce speed near emergency responders, and remain alert for sudden traffic changes. Even after lanes reopen, congestion can persist as traffic gradually normalizes.
At this time, there is no indication of a full interstate shutdown. However, localized delays and congestion remain possible across sections of I-95 due to ongoing incidents and routine roadway work. Motorists are encouraged to check real-time traffic updates and plan for additional travel time.
