Dustin Zink Obituary, Cause of Death: Florence Community Mourns 37-Year-Old Police Officer Following Oakbrook Standoff

The Florence, Kentucky, community is mourning the loss of Officer Dustin Zink, who died at the age of 37 following an officer-involved shooting during a standoff in the Oakbrook neighborhood on the evening of July 3, 2026.

Negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation, but after Zink reportedly fired his weapon multiple times, four deputies discharged their firearms. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Healthcare Edgewood Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is conducting the investigation.
